Research Proposal

Your research proposal is due on Wednesday, Oct. 12. The proposal form is on our class web site. Please submit the information requested by email so I can easily look at your web references. Give as much detail as possible for the procedure.

I will evaluate your idea and procedures and give you feedback (as well as a 15 pt grade). As indicated you can work alone or in groups of 2 or 3.

On the "Outline of the Procedure" do you want us to list step by step how the experiment will be done?

Your assignment given today and due on Wednesday will be the worksheet titled "Energy Conservation in the Home". The information for Question 1 seems to have been moved back to an EIA web site with the following address http://www.eia.gov/energyexplained/inde ... ergy_homes. You can locate the pie chart there for the info.

Yes, I am giving a seminar entitled "Lessons Learned" at 12:20 tomorrow, Oct. 21 in E306. It is about teaching and really has a focus on our Chem 1710 class. I will give 10 pts extra credit for anyone that wishes to attend.

Campers, here are the freebies for Exam 3!

1. Summarize the basic ideas of the Bohr model of the atom and what would have to happen for an electron to move farther from the nucleus and closer to the nucleus.

2. List 3 of the 4 major factors we discussed in class that contribute to our energy problem in the U.S.

3. Sketch the graph of population of the world versus time and the amount of radioactive substance versus time. What is the name of the mathematical function common to both graphs?

4. The power dissipated in a 4 ohm resistor carrying 3 A is A) 48 W B) 36 W C) 18 W D) 7 W E) not enough enformation to say

5. List 2 reasons why alternating current is superior to direct current for distribution to homes.

Enjoy!

Saturn

In USATODAY there is a great article about the origin of Saturn's rings (with application to the rings of other planets). http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/scie ... topstories
