Pre-medicine

Postby Ron Robertson » Fri Aug 19, 2011 6:17 pm

This board is dedicated to the posting of general information for students preparing for medical school and related health fields. Dates of important events such as the visits of med school reps on campus, practice MCAT tests, volunteer opportunities, important meetings, and answers to general questions will be posted here. Feel free to post questions/comments for the advisors and other fellow students. Please do not start another topic, just post a reply at the end of the previous post.

Your main pre-med advisors are myself (Ron Robertson/Chemistry) and Meagan Mann/Chemistry, Sarah Schiller/Biology, Gilbert Pitts/Biology, and Chad Brooks/Biology. I am the moderator of the Board. The department chairs of biology and chemistry also do some pre-med advising. There are numerous other pre-health profession advisors of course. A good place to start for APSU pre-med specific information is http://www.apsu.edu/robertsonr/premed/p ... sement.htm.

The Board is an open board but it does require registration for posting. Please use your first and last name as your username. Unidentifiable names will be removed.

Best wishes to all pre-meds! If you have problems posting or getting registered, just email me at robertsonr@apsu.edu.

Just got this e-mail. I have the flyer mentioned below. This is a great workshop for minorities interested in medical school. Ron Robertson

Greetings! Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is holding its fourth annual Levi Watkins, Jr. MD Premedical Conference on Saturday, October 29, 2011. We would like to invite all students from underrepresented minority groups who are planning to pursue a career as a physician. The conference will be from 8 AM to 5:00 PM in Light Hall on the Vanderbilt University Medical Center campus (see attached map).

The Vanderbilt School of Medicine has a strong commitment to increasing minority representation in the health professions. Toward this end, we have designed the conference to help students successfully navigate through the application process. We are excited to present an AMCAS overview, personal statement workshop, mock interviews, MD/PhD program, summer research opportunities, and Q & A panel with Vanderbilt admissions committee representatives. Additionally, we have provided many opportunities throughout the day for attendees to connect with current medical students, residents, and attending physicians.

A registration fee of $26 is required for attendance, which will include the above workshops, breakfast and lunch, and a conference T-shirt. Conference participants will also be eligible to win a free KAPLAN MCAT prep course to be raffled at the end of the day. Attendees are encouraged to dress professionally and comfortably. Late registration will start on October 4, 2011 at $36. Students may register online at: https://medschool.vanderbilt.edu/premed-conf/

Attached is a flier that we hope you will forward to your students with information about the program and the website address. The website contains more information about the schedule, as well as contact information for students who have questions. We are eager to answer any questions that you may have as well, and can be reached at the following email address: leviwatkinsjrconference@gmail.com.
Please reply to this e-mail at your earliest convenience so that we can be sure that you received this information.

We look forward to welcoming students from your school to the conference in October!

Sincerely,

The Levi Watkins, Jr. MD Premedical Conference Planning Committee
